Creating An Individual Proposal
When we run into insurance-related roofing projects, we create an individual proposal beforehand. Then, we share our own proposal with the homeowner if they want us to.
You can choose to take our proposal to your insurance company, or you can allow us to help you through the process.
With your permission, we can talk directly to the insurance company.
We have our own numbers to compare to what the insurance is offering. We use the same software that insurance companies use, which allows us to produce more accurate proposals that insurers trust.
How Insurance Companies Typically Respond
There are three ways insurance companies typically respond, and those responses determine what we do next.
A Close Offer
If our numbers are close to those your insurance company offers, we usually move forward.
We’ll send them our proposal and do the work – either a roof repair or roof replacement. Then we’ll send them the invoices and get paid, and you have a new or repaired roof.
A Higher Offer
Sometimes, insurance companies will offer substantially more money than our assessment.
In such a case, we can provide upgrades to fit the amount of money your insurance company is offering. That includes:
- Upgraded Shingles
- Upgraded Warranty
- Upgraded Attic Ventilation
And a few other upgrades that can provide you with a better roof. Unlike less reputable roofing contractors, if your insurance offers you more than we need we’ll make sure that money goes back into your roof – not in our pockets.
A Lower Offer
The third scenario is when your insurance company offers less money than we proposed to fix your roof.
We can do a couple of things from here.
One, because we use the same software insurance companies do, we can show them in a language they understand precisely how much it will cost to repair your roof.
If we have your permission to talk to the insurance company, we can send them all the details and show them where they should be, even if they offered a lower amount the first time.
Either we’ll get concrete answers on why something is being excluded, or the insurance company will correct their offer.
Public Adjusters
Sometimes, if the insurance company pushes back on a proposal and we feel like the offer isn’t fair, we can introduce the homeowner to a public adjuster.
Public adjusters operate similarly to insurance adjusters, but they work in the interest of homeowners instead of in the interest of insurance companies.
A Specific Issue With Hailstorms
Hail is becoming more and more of an issue across the Austin area. And we’re seeing more and more hail damage done to roofs – especially over the last few years.
Insurance policies can even include exclusions regarding covering certain materials like metal if it has hail damage.
Many homeowners are looking to upgrade, when possible, to dimensional shingles from old-school three-tab shingles – a significant upgrade in a roof’s ability to resist hail damage.
Dimensional shingles are built with seven layers instead of the three layers found in three-tab shingles. They’re thicker, more durable, and have twice the lifespan.
Insurance companies can be challenging to deal with alone, but we’re here to help you through the process.
So, when you need a roof replacement or repairs in the Greater Austin area and need a roofing contractor you can trust to assist you with your insurance claim, contact Freetail Roofing to schedule an estimate.
